Katelyn McNaughton signs with the University of South Alabama

MOBILE, Ala – The University of South Alabama soccer coach Mike Varga announced that local-soccer player Katelyn McNaughton has joined the 2008-09 signing class, Monday. McNaughton, played in Mobile at Mary G. Montgomery High School, and becomes the 13th member of Varga’s Class.

“What Coach Varga is getting is a determined young lady who is smart and will always give 100 percent on and off the field,” MGM head coach Joe Moody said. “He is also getting a pretty good soccer player, who we are excited for as she gets to take her game to the next level.”

McNaughton was a five-year starter on the Lady Vikings soccer team where she was a three-time all-Mobile County selection. She was also a captain for the U-18 Mobile Soccer Club Team, while being named to the AHSAA All-Star Game South Team, this past season. For the past two years, McNaughton has been also named to the Battle of the Bays all-star teams as well.

“She was always early to practice and was the last one to leave so I know her determination and work ethic is great,” Mobile Soccer Club Director and South Alabama assistant coach Mohammad El-Zare said. “She played every position for us and I am not surprised how well her game has transformed the last few years.”

Last season the Jaguars finished with a 9-8-3 record and qualified for the Sun Belt Conference tournament in Mobile, Ala.
