Mobile Soccer Club 96 Boys Blue Team
Brings Home the Gold
Others Finish Strong as Well
November 15, 2009

The 96 Boys Blue Team achieved something no other Mobile Soccer Club team has ever achieved at State Cup last weekend - They brought home a gold medal from the State Cup in Decatur.
The 96 Boys Blue team had a remarkable fall season. They finished undefeated in the AYSA State League and then followed that up with five wins over two weekends in Decatur culminating in a victory over the Homewood 96 Boys team 3-0 in the finals on November 15, 2009 to finish with the Championship of the State Cup in their classification.
During this remarkable run starting goalkeeper, Joey Ferguson, did not allow a single goal. This includes the fall league as well as the State Cup. The one goal that was scored against this team was in a game that was well in hand against the Briarwood Ambassadors in League play. However, we all know that shutting out teams is not just the job of the keeper, it is the job of everyone on the team, particularly the defense. So all on this entire team should be commended for their excellent effort.
The 96 Boys Blue team will now represent the State of Alabama in the President's Cup in June 2010 in Tulsa Oklahoma.
Other Mobile Soccer Club teams did very well in the State League and State Cup this fall as well. For a State League Report Click HERE. The 92 Girls Blue team and the 94 Girls White team both got silver medals for finishing as finalists in the State Cup tournament. Their efforts and improvement throughout the fall season have been noted by many.
And the Mobile Soccer Club had more teams earn berths in the Final Four Weekend than ever before. Of the twelve teams that participated in the State Cup from the Mobile Soccer Club 10 of them represented the Mobile Soccer Club at the Final Four in their classification.
For a little perspective on how the Club has grown and improved over the past few years, one should note that four years ago the Mobile Soccer Club only had one team participating in the State League and State Cup. Three years ago, we had three teams participating. Last year we had six. And this year we had twelve. Quite a remarkable advancement for soccer in the Mobile Bay area. Speaking of the Bay Area, the U15 Boys from the Blast Soccer Club finished as finalists in their classification after defeating the Mobile Soccer Club U15 Boys Blue team in the semi-finals.
Congratulations to all who participated and achieved so much this fall.
