MOBILE SOCCER CLUB

SCHOLARSHIP POLICY

The Mobile Soccer Club is pleased to offer a scholarship program to help deserving players who may not otherwise be able to afford the expense of select soccer. Qualification takes into consideration financial needs as well as other factors that may influence a player’s ability to play at the Mobile Soccer Club.

All scholarship requests must be approved by the Scholarship Committee of the Mobile Soccer Club. Before a scholarship will be awarded, the parents or guardians of the prospective scholarship recipient must complete the Scholarship Application. If the paperwork is not provided or the Scholarship Committee determines that there is insufficient basis for a scholarship based on need the scholarship will be denied. These decisions will be made on a case by case basis.

Normally, no scholarship will be awarded to cover the cost of the uniforms, camps or travel costs for coaches. However, there may be some extreme circumstances where a child may receive additional assistance. In the event a child meets the Federal Poverty Guidelines as reflected in the Federal Register, a child may receive more financial assistance, including AYSA registration fees, coach’s travel and fees, tournament fees, playdate referee fees, uniform fees and other team activity fees. However, funds are limited. Unfortunately, player travel expenses cannot be covered in the scholarship. In those situations, however, some accommodation may still be made by working with the team manager. A Scholarship will not cover cost of additional items purchased, such as socks, equipment bags, warm-ups and other non-uniform items.

Applications for scholarships are available for both the fall and spring seasons. Application forms are available by emailing ScholarshipCommittee@Mobilesoccerclub.org or from team managers. These Applications must be submitted to the Scholarship Committee prior to the first day of practice. Along with the Scholarship Application, the parent/guardian must submit the required financial documentation. The applicant should provide any additional information or documentation that will aid the Scholarship Committee in determining eligibility.
Failure to do so may result in the denial of the scholarship.

The Scholarship Committee of the Board of Directors will review all Scholarship Applications. The Scholarship Committee will then make a recommendation on each scholarship request to the remainder of the Board for approval. Players will receive written notification of the Board’s decision.

Parents/Guardians of scholarship players will be expected to participate in club and team fundraisers.

All complete paperwork should be postmarked by February 11, 2008, and mailed in an envelope marked “Confidential” to the Mobile Soccer Club Scholarship Committee, Post Office Box 8363, Mobile, Alabama 36689 or emailed to ScholarshipCommittee@Mobilesoccerclub.org.

The parent will be notified whether or not the scholarship is awarded.

All information contained in the Scholarship Application will be kept confidential but some information may be provided to the manager of the player’s team to ensure that the Scholarship program is implemented to the best benefit of the player.
